Green Bean General Jeon Bong Jun Pavilion
Experience the perfect mix of history and camping at the Green Bean General Jeon Bong Jun Pavilion, a site rich in historical significance.
About the Site
Located in Pine Village, Ssangchi-myeon, Soonchang, near Jeongeup City, the Green Bean General Jeon Bong Jun Pavilion is the infamous site where the leader of Donghak Peasant Revolution, General Jeon Bong Jun, was arrested. The general, after losing the Gongju Ugeomchi Battle against foreign intervention, retreated to this location. Tragically, he was later betrayed and captured by a former subordinate under Japanese manipulation.
The site preserves the hut where the general stayed before his capture, providing a vivid glimpse into the past. The onsite museum displays photographs and documents related to the general. There’s also a reconstructed thatched-roof house, offering a unique opportunity to indirectly experience the living conditions of the time.
Within the Green Bean General Jeon Bong Jun Pavilion, there’s the Green Bean Pavilion, a rural life experience center that also serves as an accommodation facility. Nestled at the end of a stone wall path behind the thatched-roof house, it features three accommodation facilities and a camping site. The rooms, measuring 20, 13, and 10 square meters, are affordable and neatly arranged. Cooking utensils are also provided, allowing you to prepare your own meals.
